Barreled-action mod.

Just a few wraps of Teflon tape on the barrel can make a difference in performance. Removing the barrel requires 3 tools. If you have already converted your breech/action screw you will need a #1 flat blade (see previous post). If the breech screw is not converted you will need a .05" allen wrench for the breech along with a #2 flat blade for the rear sight screw. Also a 5/64" allen for the 8-32 set screws on the barrel band. Be careful of the Transfer Port falling out and possibly the seal coming loose as well.

I once read that Teflon tape on the barrel to action junction would “seal” the junction. So I put 5 wraps of tape on the barrel to give it a try... I started and ended at the hole in the barrel and fit the barrel in the action to trim off the access. Cutting along the joint with a sharp edge allowed me to unwind the excess material.

Reassembling the barreled action so the bolt feeds the pellets smoothly can be a bit of a trick:

I put the tp in the seal/main tube with the tall end up.

I assemble the barrel in the action with the bolt closed and the sight and rear screw installed.

With the gun cocked I place the assembly on the gun,

roll the barrel a bit to be sure it is over the tp,

and START the sight screw to locate the assembly on the receiver.

I then install the forward screw while pressing hard on the tp area and snug down that screw. Warning: I have stripped the threads off of a factory screw from repeated assemblies and a bit too much pressure turning the screw.

Then the barrel band goes loosely in position.

Then WITH THE BOLT CLOSED I tighten the sight screw

and then the barrel band set screws from top to bottom.

The result of shooting down 4 carts of CO2 (2 with Teflon tape and 2 without Teflon tape) the extreme spread (H x W) was smaller by using Teflon tape between the barrel and plastic action. The average velocity was also greater with the taped barrel than the non-taped barrel.

The averaged Teflon tape group was .7428” and the non-taped barrel averaged .8158”. And the taped barrel produced an average 428.5 fps and the non taped barrel an average of 426.

However the Teflon tape showed no better shot count. The taped barrel shot count (by shooting down 12% from the highest velocity) was an averaged 26 shots and the non-taped barrel shot an average of 23.5 shots.
